Your mindset is the thoughts and beliefs that you hold, about yourself. Many people operate with a ‘fixed mindset’ – people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. But if you believe that your qualities are unchangeable — the fixed mindset — you will want to prove yourself correct over and over rather than learning from your mistakes.
Having a growth mindset, however, helps you to realise that these traits are not simply a hand you’re dealt and have to live with. In this mindset, the hand you’re dealt is just the starting point for development. This growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts.
It is really hard to change your mindset. Even if you really want to, even if you’ve read all the books, been to all the lectures, been through all the coaching/ counselling/ therapy, there might still be a tiny bit of you that isn’t able to change the tiny voice inside saying ‘but I can’t’.
